Ravens will have to be cautious as they juggle contracts this offseason
Terrell Suggs wasn't better than Jared Allen, and Schwartz should have beaten Harbaugh for coach of the year
Mike Preston: In previous years there were roster spots for veterans that were considered safe, but that's not the case headed into 2012. Under the current salary cap, the Ravens will be very careful with how they structure new deals.
Also: Why Terrell Suggs shouldn't have been the defensive player of the year, and Jim Harbaugh shouldn't have been coach of the year.

Guthrie recalls his five years with O's, looks forward to possible playoff run
Orioles settle for veteran pitching depth in Guthrie trade
In an offseason that has been defined by a flurry of under-the-radar personnel additions, new Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette made his boldest move to date Monday, sending dependable veteran starter Jeremy Guthrie to the Colorado Rockies for right-handed pitchers Jason Hammel and Matt Lindstrom. Guthrie, a popular veteran presence for the O's, said he'll miss playing for Baltimore fans but is anxious to be part of what should be a competitive Rockies team.

Orioles trade Guthrie to Rockies
Team would receive right-handers Hammel, Lindstrom in return for top starter
The Orioles have traded the club's most accomplished starter, right-hander Jeremy Guthrie, to the Colorado Rockies. The Orioles receive pitchers Jason Hammel and Matt Lindstrom from Colorado. Guthrie, 32, had spent the past five seasons with the Orioles, had started Opening Day three times and was again expected to pitch the club's opener April 6. But he was to be a free agent at the end of the 2012 season and has been rumored to be on the trade block for more than a year.

Comparing QBs: Joe Flacco vs. Eli Manning through four NFL seasons
For the second time in five seasons, New York quarterback Eli Manning has led the Giants to the Super Bowl title – not too shabby for a former first-round draft pick who was criticized often in his first four NFL seasons. Does that last part sound familiar? In his first four seasons in Baltimore, Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, the 18th overall pick in the 2008 NFL draft, was the subject of a similar storyline. Like Manning, the 1st overall pick in the 2004 NFL draft, he was scrutinized by national pigskin pundits and some of his hometown fans. He was mocked for his shoulder shrugs and his laidback demeanor.

Kevin Van Valkenburg: A fond farewell to The Sun, readers
In the Spring of 2000, I was winding down my senior year at the University of Montana. And though I couldn't put the feeling into words, each day, I wandered around my hometown of Missoula feeling directionless. I had no plans after graduation. I had been rejected by about 50 newspapers I had applied to, seeking a post-graduate summer internship. I did my laundry in my parents' basement. The house I shared with three equally directionless roommates was six blocks from my childhood bedroom.
